Award of the Arthur Jessop Shield
Congratulations to Shirley Quemby on receiving the Arthur Jessop Shield for outstanding achievement and contribution to the activities of the SWL CTC. She has been a tireless supporter and activist in promoting cycling in the Sutton area and beyond particularly in regard to Dr. Bike and the activities of the beginners group based in Nonsuch Park Cheam at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon. As Jeff Tollerman said it is amazing that Shirley has not been awarded this shield before and it is very fitting that her name will now follow on from last year's award to David Aylett who also championed the beginners cause for many years.

KPRC plans to honour Frank Cubis
Dave Vine contacted Brian Powney, President of Kingston Phoenix before our AGM to ask if there were any developments in the investigation of Frank’s tragic collision. This is the substance of his reply, some of which Dave mentioned on Wednesday, and includes a kind invitation to their club Dinner Dance in February.
Brian confirmed that the investigation remains with the Police. “The only information we currently have is that Frank was hit by, what is being called a Flat Bed Van that I understand pulled out of a road onto the road Frank was on. The Police reported Frank was fully visible as they have seen him on Bus and Bus Stop cameras,”
“It should never have happened and yes I still half expect Frank to turn up at club sometime.”
“But we must go onwards and upwards, as they say.”
“So some news on fundraising for Frank and his family. They are supporting the Air Ambulance and Brake - a road safety awareness charity. And together we will purchase a hardwood park bench in memory of Frank and the aim is to place it at his favourite spot in Richmond Park. I'm aiming to have this ready by next May and we'll have a ride there arranged for an unveiling.”
“The Kingston Phoenix will work on plans over the Winter for a long distance ride - current thinking is Cardiff to London - one of Frank's National trike records. This will be a one day ride and we'll work on other clubs to get involved and sort a "Just Giving" page. We are considering a 25 mile TT in his honour but this may well be 2018 by the time it gets off the ground. Lastly, the easy one - the club's 12 Hour Trophy will be renamed the Frank Cubis Memorial Trophy - Frank still held that club record at the time of his death, with 256.92 miles.”
“Amazingly his record was broken this year by Dale Lush who rode 265.95 miles. Such a shame that Frank will not be at the club dinner to present the Trophy.”
“We will have a presentation to Frank's daughter at the club dinner on February 25th 2017 and his friends from the CTC section are welcome to attend the dinner dance. Please therefore find attached details of the club dinner as it is all now arranged.”
“Lastly, "Frank's Bucket" will be at the club dinner and people can make further donations to all of the above.”
“All the best and see you soon,
Regards, Brian.”

Tri-Vets ride 15 June: Rider briefing
We are looking forward to welcoming you on June 15th. This post should give you the information you need for an
enjoyable and safe ride. The ride is now closed to new entries. The Base: Brockham Cricket Pavilion, RH3 7JT
The pavilion is the base for signing on, where you
will receive an audax-style brevet card which will be stamped as
proof of passage. It is a 3 mile ride from Dorking station. Limited
parking is available at the pavilion, otherwise please park
considerately on the side streets, leaving Middle Street clear. The
pavilion is ¼ mile south of Brockham village centre, opposite 29
Middle Street, Brockham. You can find it here
on Google Maps.
The pavilion will be open from 7.30am serving tea and
coffee until 11am; sandwich lunches will be available from 11-3pm,
and cake and finisher's certificates will be served until 8pm. If
necessary the base will then re-locate to The Grumpy Mole in
Brockham.
The Ride
You will have been advised of your group and start time – please arrive 20 mins early to allow time to sign in and for a cup of tea. Many of you will be experienced at riding in groups, but please take a minute or two to read our Group Ride Guidelines, which cover not just the safety of those in the group, but what to bring on the ride. You are welcome to do a self-guided ride, but please inform the leader or back-marker if you don’t plan to ride with the group, or decide to leave the group. If you are worried about keeping up with the group, then we suggest you bring the ride card and a map, in case the group has to press on and you need to complete the ride independently. Leaders will try to avoid this but need to bear in mind the time limit for the 100 mile ride.
And please do check in at the base when you finish, or inform control if you decide to abandon the ride.
Links to route cards and gpx files are below.
Refreshments
Your entry fee covers tea/coffee at the start, a sandwich lunch, and more tea/coffee with cake at the finish. The 100 mile and 100k group rides will stop at a café half-way round each loop where you can purchase extra refreshments.Tri-Vets Badges
Badges are available to ‘veterans’ (over 50) who complete the 100 mile course in 12 hours, evidenced by a brevet card which will be provided on the day. These cost £4 for the badge, or £2 for a ‘year bar’ if you already have a badge. You can order badges at the finish. The Routes, and group start times
