CTC Tri-Vets Ride - 19 June 2019

You are cordially invited to join CTC South West London on Wednesday 19 June for the 2019 Tri-Vets ride, with three choices of ride length from 50k m to 100 miles. The entry cost of £5 includes refreshments at lunch and at the end of the ride.

The Triennial Veterans ride is a CTC challenge ride organised by various CTC member groups around the country. To quote the CTC:
“This is a fun challenge which CTC groups have taken part in since 1928, our Golden Jubilee year and to encourage those aged 50 and over to have a go at riding 100 miles within a 12-hour time limit.

The rides are also a great sociable occasion, with many groups choosing to include a sit-down lunch stop and refreshments along the way. For members, it's a chance to catch up with old friends, make new ones and discover new routes to ride.”

2019 event

2016 Tri-Vets
CTC South West London is running a Tri-Vets ride in 2019, following our first Tri-Vets in 2016, which was well received despite unhelpful weather. It will follow a similar format, starting and ending (and stopping for lunch) at Brockham Cricket Pavilion, with options of 100 miles, 100km or 50km. You don’t have to be a veteran (defined by the CTC as aged 50+) to ride, although badges are available to veterans completing 100 miles within 12 hours.
Most people choose to ride in a led group, with groups starting between 8am and 11am.  The routes are rolling rides based on the Surrey Cycleway:  scenic, with little technical difficulty. Lunch and tea at the Pavilion, and pubs and cafes on the routes for those who need a little more.

Entry costs £5, payable in advance and the event is limited to 80 riders, so please email Simon Lambourn first to secure a place, then send the entry form and payment.

Hilly 50 Saturday 2nd March 2019

Well done every one that helped particularly Dave Vine for not only riding and finishing but doing a sterling job of marshaling at Logmore Lane. Thanks also to the star signer on Terry without his help I would have been completely overwhelmed. It is always an anxious time beforehand knowing how many will turn up weather permitting etc. 2018 was a disaster due to snow and the beast from the east. It was cancelled. The re-run in September attracted only 7 riders from within our DA and demonstrated that the early march slot is ideal for the racing types that like to get an early season warm up event in before the time trial season starts. This year we were well supported from CUK HQ with Julie Rand bringing a crew along. See photo. In all 68 riders signed on which is a record for me and compensates for the anxiety beforehand.
I would like to thank Tony H for his support in publicizing along with Tim Court for all his efforts with the CUK events page, along with Simon Lamborn, Collin Q & Jeff T for running of flyers and sign on sheets. It all helps an illiterate IT guy like me!
I must mention the splendid support we got from V.C.Londres particularly with their contingent of young riders along with many from Addiscombe CC. In all approx 30% of those taking part. So far the event has raised £590 final total for our worthy charity of St. Raphael's is still to be finalized as I am hoping for maybe more donations. £25 has already been donated by those that could not ride and on the day many riders gave me £10 and said keep the change and on generous rider gave £20 and said the same (well I think that's what he said). I was particularly interested in one rider who rode on a Tricycle conversion, that is an ordinary road bike frame with a conversion kit from Reading CTC. See photo at finish.
The weather on the day was fine and not too much dirt on the road. It was gratifying that so many finishers shook my hand at the end of the ride to say how much they enjoyed it! (must be mad).
A particular mention should go to Steve Winder from Epsom CC, he is a phenomenal hill climber, a regular supporter and finished in 1hr. 51mins. Also I should mention another regular Martin Cairns from Cosham.

Mike, It's worth mentioning that the trike rider(and fiendish trike descender)brought along a whole bunch from CTC Reading, proving that the publicity organised by Julie @ CUK really helped.

Thanks for making this event a real success for the SW London CTC.

Great event as ever Mike. Sorry I only got to see you at the end and chased my way round. I've ridden this 7-8 times before and always enjoyed it. I will try to get some Norwood Paragon out next year and it's worth you targeting Dorking CC & Redhill CC for 2020 as it's on their patch and would be good for some friendly club rivalry.

Hi Marcus great to see you on Saturday and thanks for your contribution. The event was publicized to Redhill CC and on their website. As far as I could see only one rider turned up a very attractive young lady wearing a weather top with her Redhill top underneath. Dorking CC were also emailed for their website and a flyer was displayed at Head for the Hills. Anyway I take your point we will try and publicise the event harder next year. 68 riders signed on and overall we raised £656 for St. Raphael's Hospice Cheam.

Please be on time.

The venue is the same as last year, just a short walk from the Queens Road exit from the Day Centre.

The hall is located at the back of the premises. There are two halls with a shared entrance. Our meeting is in the Small Hall.

There are no bike racks but there is plenty of space to park bikes against the buildings near the hall entrance. Please bring your bikes to the hall rather than leave them at the Day Centre.

There are normally plenty of spaces on the premises in front of the church for anyone arriving by motor vehicle, with access from Queens Road.

Our Treasurer, Simon has advised that due to the current low annual subscription rate (£1 p.a.) we will not be hiring a bouncy castle this year.

AGM Hersham - Arthur Jessop Trophy

Well done Collin & well deserved and a long overdue award, talk about keep it in the family, will you share the cleaning with Shirley?
My picture is panoramic, encompassing Tim our secretary and I think a special thanks goes to him also for all the hard work he does every week and all year for our member group. As for David, having taken over from Collin you are also doing an excellent and thought provoking job. I thought that the meeting produced some good ideas particularly Stephanie's cycling book library idea. Well done I hope it gets off the ground well!
As for "Face Book" it is well known that as an old stick in the mud I don't do social media, in fact I term it "Anti Social Media" and the scourge of Modern Man along with "Twitter".
